Made in south central France from the Merlot grape. The Merlot is the classical Bordeaux red grape which makes Claret. Rich and deep nose and palate reminiscent of plums and red jam. £9.75

Made mainly with the Shiraz grape, this is a typical light good value Australian red wine. £9.75
Red Bin 32. CALITERRA CARMENERE
This wine from Chile is made from a grape originating in Bordeaux, France. It fell out of favour as a component of Claret and is little used there today. It has, however, found a new life in Chile. It has a very full berry fruit palate with a little oak and some herbal overtones. Very good on its own or with pasta dishes. £12.50

This classic New World cabernet sauvignon comes from Chile. There is a heady nose and palate of blackcurrants. This is exceptionally good value for a wine of such depth and varietal character. £11.95

A beautiful full bodied shiraz from S. Australia. Full of blackberry fruit with a good taste of vanilla oakiness. Great with all red meats and cheeses. £14.25
Red Bin 20. BEAUJOLAIS - VILLAGES [LOUIS JADOT]
Beaujolais is made in eastern France, to the south of Burgundy and Macon. The wine is made exclusively of the Gamay grape which gives a light bodied red with a characteristic nose of strawberry bubble gum. A good red to go with foods like fish, poultry and salads or delicious on its own. £12.75
Red Bin 21. COTES DE BEAUNE VILLAGES [LOUIS JADOT]
A classic Burgundy from the southern Cotes d'Or. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, aged in oak, this wine is big bodied and complex with a typically raspberry and strawberry nose. A good accompaniment to strong meats and sauces and cheese. £17.50
Red Bin 22. VILLA MARIA PINOT NOIR
The New World has only succeeded recently in producing good Pinot Noir wine This one from New Zealand is a good example of new style with a good palate of raspberries and strawberries, lightly oaked and medium bodied. Good with salads, pasta dishes or with cheese. £18.50
Red Bin 23. BANDA RIOJA, PATERNINA
Made from Tempranillo grapes in Rioja northern Spain. This smooth and well-bodied wine characteristically has a nose like redcurrants with vanilla and oak. Especially good with lamb or tuna dishes. £17.50

This is a classic claret, made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and cabernet franc. It is a complex, full bodied wine especially good accompanying strong meats and cheese. A special occasion wine. £28.90
Red Bin 25. ST. FRANCIS 'OLD VINES' ZINFANDEL
Now considered California's home grown grape the Zinfandel was probably the Primitivo grape from southern Italy, brought over by settlers. Like any vine that is moved it takes time to produce good grapes. This wine from the Sonoma valley comes from long established Zinfandel and produces a very rich and complex, quality wine. The complexity and smoothness of the palate with perfumed delicacy of the blackberry nose makes this a superb wine for special occasions. £18.65

Made from the Sangiovese grape in Tuscany, central Italy, this is the typical Italian red wine. It is the classic accompaniment for pizza and pasta dishes or can be enjoyed with any meat or cheese dish or drunk on its own. £14.50

Made from a blend of grapes in the Rhone valley of southern France e.g. Syrah, Grenache, Mouverdre, Carignan and Cinsault. A complex big bodied wine with superb palate and nose. Will accompany the strongest flavoured dishes very well. £20.65
Red Bin 28. BELLINGHAM PINOTAGE
Made in South Africa from a grape variety made there by crossing Pinot Noir from Burgundy with Cinsault from the Rhone. This hybrid grape variety called Pinotage is now well established and produces full bodied, smooth and deliciously scented wine. £11.75
Red Bin 29. TRAPICHE MENDOZA MALBEC
An Argentinian wine made from the Malbec grape. This grape was brought from Cahors in southern France where it makes the wine, named after the region, in the area east of Bordeaux. Like the French wine it is big bodied, heavily scented and reminiscent of plum jam with a hint of liquorice. £12.75

This is a typical Rhone valley blend. Soft and velvet-like on the palate. Good with all red meat dishes and a cheese plate. £12.99

Another bone dry wine, this time from the chalky regions around the origins of the Loire in eastern France, north of Burgundy. Made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape it is, like Muscadet, particularly good with fish. £15.75

Made exclusively from one grape, Melon de Bourgogne, the name betraying the origins of this grape variety, in Burgundy. Produced around the delta region of the Loire, western France. Bone dry wine, especially good with seafood. £8.75
White Bin 7. VILLA MARIA SAUVIGNON BLANC
Most Sauvignon Blanc used to be grown in Bordeaux where it still produces fine, if expensive, wine. The grape however travels well and now makes excellent wine all over the New World, notably New Zealand where Villa Maria is made. A very fruity dry white with hints of gooseberries, apples and more tropical fruits. £14.50

This medium fruity wine is made from the red zinfandel grape but is taken off the skins quickly after crushing to leave just a blush colour. Delicious on its own or with salads and white meats it comes from California U.S.A famous for its zinfandel production. £10.75
